Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov has said that at least 30,000 people need to be mobilised into the country’s armed forces every month and called for mobilisation to be accepted “as it is”, Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing Budanov.
“However painful it may be, we have to accept mobilisation as it is. We cannot do otherwise. We need to have the courage to say openly that mobilising fewer than 30,000 people a month is simply not possible. That is the minimum required to maintain the current situation,” Budanov said.
Budanov also expressed the view that the appointment of Yevhen Khmara as Defence Minister would not change anything regarding mobilisation.
“Nothing will fundamentally change with Khmara’s appointment because there is a need for at least 30,000 citizens. And that is a huge number. Therefore, no matter how much we say that we will mobilise people differently, the numbers will not change, which means that the number of dissatisfied people will not change either. Nothing can be done about that,” the head of the Presidential Office said.
At the same time, Budanov expressed hope that approaches to “forced mobilisation” could be changed to some extent.
“I hope that the approaches to this forced mobilisation, which sometimes occurs, can be changed to some extent. It is not universal, but such cases do occur. This needs to be addressed,” he said.
