Dilijan is growing faster than Armenia’s tourism market: the city welcomed 243.800 visitors in 2025

According to Meet Dilijan estimates, tourist arrivals to Dilijan increased by 5,7% in 2025, reaching 243,800 visitors. By comparison, arrivals to Armenia grew by 2,5% over the same period.

Dilijan continues to strengthen its position as one of Armenia’s fastest-growing tourism destinations. According to Meet Dilijan estimates, around 243.800 people visited the city in 2025 - 5.7% more than the previous year. In 2024, Dilijan welcomed 230.658 visitors.

Dilijan has now recorded growth for the second consecutive year. In 2024, tourist arrivals to the city increased by 11,1%, while international arrivals to Armenia declined by 4.7% over the same period. In 2025, Dilijan once again outpaced the national trend, growing by 5,7% compared with 2.5% nationwide.

One in three visitors comes from abroad

According to Meet Dilijan estimates, 63,5% of visitors are residents of Armenia, or approximately 154.800 people. A further 36.5%, or around 89.000 visitors, come from abroad. This category includes international tourists, members of the Armenian diaspora, expats, and Armenian citizens permanently residing overseas.

This visitor mix shows that Dilijan continues to hold a strong position in Armenia’s domestic tourism market while also attracting growing interest from international audiences.

From a stop along the way to a destination in its own right

Meet Dilijan notes that the city is gradually moving beyond the traditional format of a weekend getaway or a brief stop on the way to Lake Parz and nearby monasteries.

“More and more people are choosing Dilijan as a destination in its own right and staying for several days. For today’s traveler, it is not only the well-known attractions that matter, but also the feeling of being in a living, vibrant place - somewhere you genuinely want to stay a little longer.

We do not want Dilijan to become just another “box to tick” on an itinerary. What matters is helping visitors experience the city on a deeper level - as a place with its own character, stories, people, and rhythm. Sustainable interest begins when people do more than simply come for a photo: they return, and they recommend the destination to their friends,” Dianna Aslanyan, Project Manager of Meet Dilijan, says.

The next area of growth is international audience

Meet Dilijan believes that further growth in visitor numbers will depend primarily on increasing Dilijan’s international visibility and ensuring that the city remains on the radar of travelers who are already considering Armenia as a holiday destination.

The continued development of high-quality tourism infrastructure, hospitality, and local projects can also play an important role in this process, helping to shape a new image of Dilijan - not only as a nature retreat, but as a cultural and tourism destination in its own right.
