Armenian judoka Narek Davtyan wins silver at World Championships

Armenian judo team member Narek Davtyan has won a silver medal at the World Championships Cadets Individuals 2026 in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Competing in the 55kg weight category, Davtyan secured three victories, including a win over France’s Jules Bacquet, the 2026 European champion, and advanced to the semifinals. In the semifinal, the Armenian judoka defeated a representative of Ukraine, while in the final he lost to U.S. representative Sebastian Teran, earning the silver medal at the World Championships.
On the first day of competition, athletes in the 50kg and 60kg weight categories also took to the mat. Armenia’s Karen Navasardyan and Narek Nahapetyan won their opening bouts but subsequently suffered defeats and were eliminated from the competition.
On August 21, 66kg judoka Sergey Gevorgyan will take to the mat.
The cadet national team is competing at the World Championships under head coach Hovhannes Davtyan.
