The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on July 29 returned three Israeli citizens who crossed the border into Syria near Mount Hermon the previous day, according to the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, as cited by TASS.
“Yesterday, three Israeli citizens arrived in the Mount Hermon area and crossed the border into Syria. Earlier today, IDF forces deployed to the scene located the individuals and returned them to Israeli territory,” the statement said.
The IDF said the detained individuals had been handed over to the Israel Police for further proceedings.
The military stressed that it strongly condemns the incident, saying it endangered the safety of IDF personnel operating in the area.
“Israel’s law enforcement authorities must hold those responsible accountable and prevent the recurrence of such incidents, which constitute a criminal offence,” the statement said.
