Friedrich Merz congratulates Nikol Pashinyan and the people of Armenia

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has congratulated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the people of Armenia on the parliamentary elections.

“I congratulate Nikol Pashinyan and the people of Armenia. Despite enormous pressure, the people of Armenia have clearly chosen democracy and peace. I look forward to further deepening our bilateral and European cooperation with Armenia,” he wrote in a post on X.

According to the preliminary results of Armenia’s June 7 parliamentary elections, three political forces have surpassed the threshold required to enter parliament: the Civil Contract Party with 727,820 votes, or 49.825%; the Strong Armenia Alliance with 340,088 votes, or 23.281%; and the Armenia Alliance with 145,113 votes, or 9.934%.

Based on the preliminary results, the Civil Contract Party is expected to secure a majority in parliament and form the government.
