Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that regardless of how many votes each political party or bloc receives in Sunday’s vote, the people will be the winners of the election.

Speaking at a campaign event in Yerevan for the Civil Contract party, Pashinyan said that since the 2018 revolution led by him, power in Armenia has been returned to the people, replacing a system he described as one in which small groups or individuals previously dominated decision-making. Now, he said, the people’s will is the only factor determining the outcome of elections.

“Today, the most important factor is the following: we are approaching elections, and who decides the outcome of the elections? There is no system, no individual or narrow group of individuals that can claim the right to make that decision. Today, political forces try to convey their message through direct communication with people,” Pashinyan said.

According to the Prime Minister, elections are not only a political process but also a substantive and emotional one, because citizens must accept and connect with the message proposed by a political force.

Pashinyan noted that during elections, each citizen’s power reaches its peak.

“The people will be the winners of this election, because it is the people’s power that will be established,” Pashinyan declared.

The Prime Minister also noted that times have changed, when power was seen as something superior to the people.

“Today, the people are the masters, and the government is the servant. And being a servant is by no means demeaning or humiliating; on the contrary, it is a great honor,” he said.
