US touts ‘progress’ after latest Israel-Lebanon talks

The US has announced “progress” after the latest talks it brokered at the State Department between Israeli and Lebanese diplomatic representatives.

It was the fourth such meeting of envoys in Washington and will be held again on Wednesday.

“Delegations from Israel and Lebanon met today at State for the fourth round of direct talks, held under U.S. auspices. Progress continues on the political and security tracks as we break from the failures of the past 20 years and advance toward a comprehensive agreement aimed at restoring Lebanon’s sovereignty and ensuring Israel's security. The United States remains fully committed to facilitating these historic negotiations. Another round is scheduled for tomorrow,” State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said on X.

On June 1, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and the Lebanese Shia Hezbollah movement had established a ceasefire. However, Lebanese media reported that Israeli forces continued to strike southern Lebanon.
