Death of serviceman under investigation as alleged suicide

The Armenian Ministry of Defense has announced that a serviceman was found dead in the early hours of Tuesday.

In a press release, the ministry said the body of serviceman Aramayis M. Gevorgyan was discovered at around 00:10 on June 2. No further details were provided. His rank and base of service were not disclosed.

Shortly afterwards, the Investigative Committee announced the launch of criminal proceedings, indicating that the death is being treated as an alleged suicide.

It said the case has been initiated under Paragraph 1 of Article 522 of the Criminal Code, concerning negligent inducement of suicide.
