Arrest warrant issued over alleged assassination plot against Pashinyan

Authorities on Monday issued an arrest warrant for an individual who threatened in a video to assassinate Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, after an investigation revealed the suspect’s identity.

The Investigative Committee said in a press release that the suspect, who is currently at large and has been living abroad since 2024, conspired with at least four accomplices to assassinate the Prime Minister and had gathered information about the Prime Minister’s anticipated whereabouts during the ongoing campaign period.

The video, shared online earlier in May, shows a masked man speaking, while four others—also wearing masks—stand behind him, brandishing what appear to be AKS-74U assault rifles and threatening to kill Pashinyan.

The Investigative Committee also stated that the individuals illegally accessed a restricted computer network in order to disseminate the video during a live broadcast.

Only one of the suspects has been identified; authorities disclosed only his initials, M.M.

M.M. has been charged in absentia with conspiracy to commit murder with political motives, as well as obstruction of campaigning, in connection with the illegal access of the network used to distribute the video.
