Armenian Parliament Speaker: Iran and Middle East developments pose no threat to TRIPP project

Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan (Civil Contract party) said he believes that the developments in Iran and the Middle East do not pose a threat to the TRIPP project.

“I believe this is not dangerous for TRIPP. We deeply regret the casualties that have occurred and hope that the events will be as short-lived as possible, because this is happening directly with our neighbor, which naturally concerns us. At the same time, we understand that this is a very significant geopolitical issue—perhaps one of the largest wars—which, thank God, has no direct connection to us, and we hope it will not affect Armenia’s interests in any way,” Simonyan emphasized at a press briefing when asked whether the ongoing hostilities could negatively impact the TRIPP connectivity project.

Speaker Simonyan also lauded the peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan against the backdrop of the recent developments.

Speaking about the challenges facing Armenia in this context, Simonyan emphasized that it is necessary not to get involved and to keep the Republic of Armenia away from any process that could undermine the peace process.

Regarding the possibility of Iranian Armenians relocating to Armenia, Simonyan stated that, according to the information he has, the situation at present does not indicate any such movement.

“At this time, I have no information suggesting such a risk or intention. There was also no such intention during the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran in June 2025. Naturally, we have plans in such cases, but at the moment, there has been no such movement,” Simonyan said.
