The priorities of the Armenian government are peace, stability, democracy, and economic prosperity, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the Polish Institute of International Affairs, a Warsaw-based think tank, during his official visit to Poland.
He was asked about the main development priorities he sees for Armenia in the coming years.
The Prime Minister emphasized that new economic opportunities are currently emerging for Armenia. He said that the peace established with Azerbaijan represents something entirely new for the country.
“Could you have imagined that there would be a railway, open borders, and trade with all our neighbors? These are factors that are completely new for us. At present, we are experiencing significant and visible economic growth, and I am convinced that peace is already having a very positive impact on Armenia’s economic, social, and public life. Our priority is to become a crossroads of peace,” said the Prime Minister.
He also described the current situation in Armenia:
“Armenia is now moving from the periphery toward the center—of course without physically relocating. Armenia remains in the same place—it has always been in the same place—but now we are moving from the edges toward the center. This is not only about Armenia; it is also an entirely new situation for the whole region, and it creates opportunities for Armenia and its neighbors to perceive each other from a new perspective.
I have already said that it is impossible to switch off hostility with the push of a button, but the process has begun, and I am confident that perceptions of each other in our region will improve. Honestly, this is part of our political mission. I also believe that we have the strong will to carry out this mission, and my sense is that there is determination to ensure results not only in Armenia, but also in Azerbaijan,” Pashinyan said.
