Armenian Foreign Minister meets with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in Geneva on the sidelines of the UN Human Rights Council.

“Ararat Mirzoyan and Volker Türk exchanged views on priorities in the field of human rights protection, the current challenges facing the international human rights system, and the main areas of cooperation,” the Foreign Ministry said in a readout.

According to the readout, Minister Mirzoyan presented Armenia’s approaches to the further institutionalization of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. “Reference was made to the continued strengthening of peace, steps aimed at promoting an atmosphere of trust, as well as addressing the issues of conflict-affected populations and humanitarian concerns.”

“The meeting emphasized the importance of active cooperation to continuously strengthen democratic resilience and public trust in human rights protection institutions. The significance of human rights topics within the framework of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), to be held in Armenia this year, was also highlighted," the ministry said.
