Armenia and Türkiye continue talks on implementing agreements, says official

Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council, stated that Yerevan and Ankara continue discussions on implementing, as soon as possible, the agreements already reached on the initial opening of the border to third-country nationals and holders of diplomatic passports.

Speaking at a press briefing about the possible timeline for the opening of the Armenia–Türkiye border, Grigoryan said:

“I cannot say anything about specific timeframes. We expect to implement the agreements we have reached with Türkiye. We continue discussions with the Turkish side in order to make those agreements a reality as soon as possible.”

Türkiye unilaterally closed its land border with Armenia in 1993.

The two countries have intensified normalization efforts in recent years and reached an agreement that the first phase would envisage opening the border to citizens of third countries as well as diplomats.

Armenia’s border checkpoint with Türkiye has been modernized and is ready for operations.
