Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held an informal meeting with representatives of Armenia's technology community, including information technologies, artificial intelligence, telecommunications and other related fields, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a readout.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker Hakob Arshakyan and Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan.

According to Pashinyan, statistics show what has changed in the sector compared to 2018.

The Prime Minister said that, compared with 2018, the number of IT and technology companies in Armenia has increased more than twelvefold-by about 1,225%. He added that sectoral turnover has risen by 171%, nearly quadrupling, while employment has increased more than fivefold over the same period. As for qualitative changes in the sector, he noted that satellite internet services, including Starlink, are now operating across Armenia, contributing to more balanced territorial development.

In discussing future growth, the Prime Minister underscored the strategic nature of Armenia–United States relations.

According to Pashinyan, within the framework of the TRIPP project, advanced technologies for border and customs control will be introduced and will also be used at other border points of the republic, including Zvartnots Airport.

He also emphasized the importance of introducing a biometric passport system.

Pashinyan said the development of the technology sector is inseparable from progress in education. Participants discussed challenges and prospects for Armenia's technological and digital future.

The meeting was organized by the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises. The Prime Minister answered questions from participants on sectoral development, the TRIPP project, and government priorities and programmes.
