Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia Hasmik Avagyan received representatives of the Armenian Sports Committee of the Deaf, headed by Committee Chairman Grigor Grigoryan.
According to the ministry, the Armenian Deaflympics team competed at the Deaflympics in Tokyo, Japan, from November 12 to 26, winning four medals. The nine-member team competed in four sports: Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, karate and judo. Armenia participated in karate at the Deaflympics for the first time.
Greco-Roman wrestler Narek Nikoghosyan (87 kg) won a silver medal, while bronze medals were claimed by Greco-Roman wrestler Sargis Sargsyan (60 kg), freestyle wrestler Senik Serobyan (57 kg) and karate athlete Gagik Voskanyan (67 kg).
Congratulating the athletes on their achievements, Hasmik Avagyan noted that she was pleased to discuss not only current issues in the sector but also to express gratitude for their results. She emphasized that the athletes'work is visible to the state and that they hold a special place in the history of the Republic of Armenia’s sporting achievements.
During the meeting, a number of issues related to the development of the sector were discussed.
