Iranian FM meets new ambassador to Armenia, emphasizes need to advance ties

Khalil Shirgholami, the newly appointed ambassador of Iran to Armenia, met with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday before leaving for Armenia.

During this meeting, Shirgholami outlined his proposed plans to further strengthen Tehran-Yerevan bilateral relations within the framework of the good-neighborly policy and promote cooperation in various fields, IRNA news agency reported.

Foreign Minister Araghchi, while wishing success for the new ambassador to Yerevan, described the relations between Armenia and Iran as civilizational and historical.

He emphasized the need to use all capacities to further strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries.

Before being appointed as new ambassador to Armenia, Shirgholami served as Deputy Director for Research and Studies at the Center for Political and International Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
