Armenia–Azerbaijan peace process could serve as an example for other regions: Merz

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan could serve as an example for other regions of the world. He made the remarks at a joint press conference with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Berlin, addressing a question about Germany's possible direct involvement in the Armenia–Azerbaijan border delimitation process, Armenpress correspondent has reported from Germany.

According to the Chancellor, Germany is following the process with great attention.
"We agree that there is a great opportunity for Armenia and Azerbaijan. This requires joint diplomatic and other efforts, as well as mutual consideration of each other's interests. We can work together to advance the peace process. I believe this case can serve as an example for other regions of the world. Thus, I think the path to Europe has been opened and cooperation can be deepened in many different ways," Merz said.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that Armenia has been working with Azerbaijan in a bilateral format for quite a long time. "But during this time, Germany and the EU have also shown support for the peace process. And that support has been expressed in concrete actions," the Prime Minister said.

Pashinyan added that during the previous period, many important developments and decisions created a certain space for Armenia to advance its peace agenda.

In this context, he highlighted the deployment of the EU Civilian Mission along Armenia’s border with Azerbaijan, noting that this decision has played a very important role in supporting the peace process and strengthening Armenia's ability to pursue its peace agenda with greater confidence.
