NSS prevents large-scale drug smuggling from Iran to Armenia

The National Security Service (NSS) has uncovered and prevented a major case of drug smuggling from the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia.

According to the NSS, Armenian citizens A.M. and S.S., acting in coordination with an Iranian national, smuggled a particularly large consignment of drugs across the Armenian-Iranian border on November 10 for further sale. The members of the criminal group, having received the batch of drugs from an Iranian citizen in the border zone of the Armenian-Iranian state border, attempted to transport it to Yerevan, but were detained by NSS officers in Syunik.

Criminal proceedings were launched by the Syunik Regional Investigation Department. As a result of a search conducted in A.M.'s car, 26 kg of drugs, including 4.69 kg of methamphetamine and 20.842 kg of marijuana, were found. Both suspects have been detained as a preventive measure.

During searches of their residences, investigators found two pistols with magazines, additional quantities of methamphetamine and marijuana intended for sale, counterfeit banknotes, electronic scales, suspicious vials and used syringes.
