Armenian President lauds 'exemplary' relationship with Georgia

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan described the relationship between Armenia and Georgia as "exemplary," highlighting how the two nations can live side by side without any issues.

He made the remarks at the conclusion of his official visit to Georgia.

Armenia and Georgia are trusted partners, and this trust exists both at the state level and in personal interactions, Khachaturyan said.

The Armenian President noted that the meetings and discussions with the President of Georgia and other senior officials took place in a friendly and cordial atmosphere, with the conversations being open and covering all topics of mutual interest.

“I have tried to present to them the domestic political situation in Armenia and the new developments surrounding the initialing of the peace agreement with Azerbaijan. This topic is of interest to everyone, particularly regarding what the future holds, especially in relation to the TRIPP project, border opening, and other issues," the President told reporters in the Armenian village of Kirants during a stopover on his way back to Yerevan.

Khachaturyan also said that there were discussions about the domestic political situation in Georgia, which is of interest to Armenia as well. According to President Khachaturyan, the talks also covered the external challenges and difficulties faced by Georgia.

"We also discussed our future actions and plans. We are the kind of countries that truly have no problems with each other, and if there have ever been any issues in history, they have been resolved very easily. In my view, this is one of the rare cases where neighboring countries have never had major problems with each other. This is very uncommon, as neighbors often have issues with one another. It is an example of how two countries can live side by side without becoming a problem for each other, but rather, by complementing and helping one another move forward," emphasized President Khachaturyan.

The President of Armenia also added that, currently, Armenia and Georgia are primarily discussing economic cooperation because the topic of why there are no bilateral investments has always been raised.

“I believe a new environment is being created in Armenia, and the same can be said for Georgia. In this new environment, we have opportunities. We are talking about mutually utilizing high technologies, energy resources, jointly managing borders, and other areas,” said the President, emphasizing that such issues were discussed in meetings with Georgian counterparts.

President Vahagn Khachaturyan also noted that the most important factor in relations with both Georgia and any other country is trust. If there is trust at the state level as well as in personal relations, it is very positive and crucial, he said.

The President also highlighted the importance of the personal relationship between the Prime Ministers of Armenia and Georgia, as well as the reciprocal visits and constant communications between senior officials of both countries, on both bilateral and regional/global issues.

President Vahagn Khachaturyan was in Georgia on an official visit from November 19 to 20.
