Armenian FM congratulates new Director-General of UNESCO on election

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan congratulated Khaled El-Enany on his election as UNESCO Director-General.
“I warmly congratulate Professor Khaled El-Enany for his election as UNESCO DG, wishing every success in his responsible mission,” Mirzoyan said on X. “Armenia fully supports his vision of placing people at the heart of UNESCO & looks forward to fruitful coop across all dimensions of Organization’s mandate.”
Mirzoyan also thanked outgoing UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay for cooperation.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to Audrey Azoulay for dedicated leadership throughout her tenure. Armenia deeply appreciates her efforts to strengthen Armenia-UNESCO cooperation & continued support provided to Armenia under her guidance, in particular in navigating pressing challenges,” FM Mirzoyan said.
President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan met with the new Director-General of UNESCO during his visit to Egypt.
Enany, 54, Egypt's former tourism and antiquities minister,was elected last month by UNESCO's 58-member Executive Board with 55 votes, beating Edouard Firmin Matoko of Congo-Brazzaville. He was confirmed to the post by the agency's general conference today with 172 votes in favour out of 175.
