Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan has expressed confidence that Armenia will successfully hold general elections in 2026 as a result of the extensive democratic reforms carried out with the support of the European Union.
Simonyan made the remarks at the 12th Ordinary Session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in Yerevan, referring to international and domestic political events.
He said that Armenia has already begun preparatory work to host the 8th Summit of the European Political Community in Yerevan in May 2026. In addition, in the fall of 2026, Armenia will also host the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP-17).
“Parliamentary elections will take place in June 2026. I am confident that, thanks to the extensive democratic reforms implemented with the support of the European Union, we will successfully hold these elections as well,” Speaker Alen Simonyan said.
