The Azerbaijani delegation will not participate in the upcoming EuroNest Parliamentary Assembly 12th Ordinary Session due to take place in Yerevan, the Azerbaijani delegation’s head Tahir Mirkishili has said.
"The Azerbaijani delegation will not participate in this session. The documents and declarations adopted by the European Parliament contradict Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity. These statements also do not support the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the region; on the contrary, they serve the interests of forces that are interested in continuing hostility in the region," TASS quoted the Azerbaijani official as saying.
He reminded that the Azerbaijani side has repeatedly expressed its protest on this matter, and the recent 'non-constructive statement' made by the European Parliament following the meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the United States in Washington has completely undermined Baku's confidence in cooperation within the framework of EuroNest.
According to the Azerbaijani APA news agency, Mirkishili emphasized that the decision not to participate in the session is not related to its location in Armenia.
'Today, peace has been established between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and practical steps are being taken to normalize the relations,' he added.
The parliamentary delegation of Georgia had also earlier refused to attend the EuroNest Parliamentary Assembly 12th Ordinary Session, citing the “biased stance” of certain members of the European Parliament and their support for the Georgian opposition.
