Armenian university rector arrested on suspicion of running criminal syndicate

The rector of the Armenian State Pedagogical University, Ms. Srbuhi Gevorgyan, along with the university's deputy rector, has been arrested on bribery-related charges, authorities said on Friday.
Several other university staff members were also arrested, according to a press release from the Anti-Corruption Committee.
Authorities stated that the individuals are suspected of "establishing and leading a criminal syndicate composed of various university employees, committing large-scale embezzlement and fraud, and receiving bribes."
Gevorgyan has served as rector since 2022.
