Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset in Strasbourg.
According to a readout issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Secretary General Berset welcomed Pashinyan’s visit and praised the active and effective cooperation established between the Government of Armenia and the Council of Europe.
Berset credited this cooperation with contributing to the advancement of institutional reforms in Armenia across various sectors. He expressed hope that the planned programs will continue successfully within the framework of bilateral cooperation.
Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed gratitude for the warm reception and noted that this visit, which comes six years after his first visit in 2019, takes place during a significant period.
Pashinyan stated that by overcoming the difficult challenges of the past five years, Armenia is now at a turning point in its development.
He emphasized that Armenia views the Council of Europe as a strategic partner in democratic development and highlighted the organization’s role in strengthening democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
Both parties praised the effective implementation of joint activities and discussed items on the bilateral agenda, including the progress of democratic reforms in Armenia.
Secretary General Berset welcomed the initialing of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement and expressed hope that the new reality created by the establishment of peace will open broad opportunities for development in the region.
