Sandu’s PAS projected to maintain majority as diaspora ballots tip the scale in Moldova election

The preliminary results of the parliamentary elections in Moldova, after processing over 99 percent of the protocols, reveal that President Maia Sandu’s pro-EU PAS party garnered 50.03 percent of votes and is projected to maintain majority when mandates are allocated, local media reported citing electoral commission data.

The other parties running for parliament, the Patriotic Bloc received over 24%, Alternative Bloc –about 8%, Our Party – 6%, and PPDA – over 5%.

PAS could secure 55 seats in the 101-seat parliament.

The turnout was 52%, with 1,596,530 voters casting their ballots.

Diaspora ballots made the difference for PAS, as votes from abroad pushed the party over the threshold needed to continue securing a majority.
