Tennis player Elina Avanesyan, the first Armenian athlete to break into the Top 40 of the WTA world rankings, said on Monday that she seeks to represent Armenia in the Olympics.
“I got sick this March, which really drained my energy,” she told a press conference. “Recovering was difficult. After that, I wasn’t able to deliver a good performance in international tournaments due to an injury. But I believe everything happens for a reason. This trial has made me more patient. I have now nearly recovered, but I still have some problems with my shoulder.”
“Any athlete dreams about participating in the Olympic Games, and I am no exception. I am looking forward to my future participation. I intend to participate not only in the Los Angeles Olympics but the others too,” she said.
Avanesyan has been holding master classes for children in Yerevan and will soon visit other cities as well.
