Parliamentary committee approves ratification of tax treaty with Japan

Lawmakers at the Economic Affairs Committee of the Armenian Parliament approved on Tuesday the bill on ratifying the Convention on Elimination of Double Taxation with respect to Taxes on Income and the Prevention of Tax Evasion and Avoidance between Armenia and Japan.

The bill will be included in the plenary session.

The government of Armenia’s 2021-2026 program mentions that it will seek to expand the geography of tax treaties with the purpose of developing international trade-economic ties.

Deputy Finance Minister Arman Poghosyan told lawmakers that expanding such trade treaties is an important policy. “This is especially important with countries with whom we expect to strengthen economic ties and attract investments.”

The treaty will create favorable tax conditions and ensure stable and predictable tax environment for businesses of both countries.

Authorities believe that the treaty will contribute to the development of economic ties, trade and investments between Armenia and Japan.

The convention was signed in December 2024.  The Cabinet approved its ratification earlier this year.
