Germany welcomes initialing of Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement, calls for expeditious signing

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul welcomed the signing of a joint declaration by the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaiajn, noting that Berlin is ready to support Yerevan and Baku on their path toward lasting peace.
“Today, Armenia and Azerbaijan are opening a new chapter in their history. The fact that both countries initialed a peace agreement in Washington, initiated by US President Donald Trump, offers hope to many people in Armenia and Azerbaijan who look back on a long history of conflict, displacement, and suffering. Today demonstrates the willingness of both governments to address difficult issues through negotiations and make tough compromises,” Wadephul told reporters.
He added that at this moment it is extremely important for both governments with the expeditious signing and ratification of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan by both governments. “Germany is ready to support Armenia and Azerbaijan on their path to lasting peace,” said Wadephul.
