Yeghishe Melikyan has been appointed as the new head coach of the Armenian national football team, the football federation has announced.
Melikyan, the FC Pyunik manager, is taking over from John van’t Schip, who was relieved from the position today.
Melikyan signed a contract until November 2026.
“I am proud to assume the position of head coach of the Armenian national football team,” Melikyan said. “I realize the difficulty and entire responsibility of the moment and I am ready to pass this path with honor. I will make all decisions for the benefit of the national team and Armenian football. Now is the time to unite forces. I call on the entire football community to unite around the national team,” he said.
Football Federation of Armenia President Armen Melikbekyan lauded Melikyan’s career achievements and said he is a professional who knows the Armenian football as an insider, starting as a player in the national team up to managing a club and twice winning the championship title.
The federation expressed its sincere gratitude to Mr. Van’t Schip and his staff for their professionalism, commitment, and the high-level expertise they brought to the team.
