Iran’s position on unblocking regional communications in the South Caucasus remains unchanged: it must be carried out within the framework of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, said during a briefing with journalists.

In response to a question regarding the possible outsourcing of control over the Syunik road to the United States or another country, the ambassador emphasized that Armenian authorities have made it clear that any unblocking would take place within the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia.

"The Prime Minister has clearly stated that Armenia will exercise control. I have not heard anything else. The rest are media speculations, and we cannot express an official position based on them," Sobhani stressed.

Asked whether Iran has concerns about the possible involvement of third parties in the region, the ambassador responded: "No, that is also media speculation."

Sobhani also noted: "Yes, the Prime Minister confirmed that there were proposals.  What we know and what Armenian officials have said is that everything will take place within the framework of Armenia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty."
