The United States is concerned about the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Syria, the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said at the signing of a memorandum with the Foreign Minister of Bahrain.

"Now we are very concerned about this, we want it to stop," he told in response to a question about the conflict in the Middle East.

“We want it to stop. We are talking to both sides, all relevant sides, on this, and hopefully can bring it to a conclusion.”

Israel has launched strikes on Damascus. One of the targets was the headquarters of the Syrian General Staff, which was reportedly destroyed.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the decision to strike Damascus was in response to clashes between Bedouins and Druze in Syria's Suwayda province.
