Trump says alignment with BRICS' 'anti-American policies' to invite additional 10% tariffs

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that countries aligning themselves with the "Anti-American policies" of BRICS, will be charged an additional 10% tariff.

"Any Country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

The original BRICS group gathered leaders from Brazil, Russia, India and China at its first summit in 2009. The bloc later added South Africa and last year included Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia as members, Reuters reported.

The 2025 BRICS Summit took place in Rio de Janeiro over the weekend.

Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who hosted the summit, criticized NATO’s decision to hike military spending by 5% of GDP annually by 2035, Reuters reported.

The group’s declaration criticized the attacks on Iran without mentioning the U.S. or Israel, the two nations that conducted them.
