Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating corruption. Speaking at an event marking the Day of Prosecution Staffers, he emphasized the Armenian government’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption. The remarks were delivered at the international high-level forum titled “Prosecutorial Independence and Impartiality in the Context of Launching Public Criminal Proceedings Against Officials Suspected of Crimes: Corruption and Money Laundering.”
The event was attended by Prosecutor‑General Anna Vardapetyan, government officials, judicial authorities, representatives from the Council of Europe and various European and international prosecutorial associations, as well as foreign ambassadors.
PM Pashinyan congratulated the prosecutors on their professional holiday and thanked them for their work. He stated that the law enforcement system plays a crucial role in ensuring the conditions essential for citizens’ well-being—namely peace, security (both domestic and external), justice, freedom, and prosperity.
He described corruption as one of the principal challenges in any reality, affecting multiple sectors. “The government’s policy is to maintain zero tolerance for corruption and its manifestations, and we remain fully committed to that,” the PM said. He stressed that it is vital not only to identify and eliminate the effects of corruption but also to determine its underlying causes.
Pashinyan noted that corruption often tempts those in power and underscored the importance of improving working conditions for public officials. He added that the government had increased salaries within the judiciary for that purpose. “From the very beginning, our intention in raising the salaries of prosecutors, investigators, and judges was primarily for the benefit of citizens, to make justice and fairness more accessible. I want to believe that justice and fairness are becoming more accessible in Armenia, but we must acknowledge that this is not a simple process,” he said.
He concluded by affirming that ongoing reforms are being implemented with the expectation that citizens’ satisfaction with the justice system will continue to grow.
