Pashinyan calls for polite public debates without inappropriate language

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Saturday that profanities ought to be ruled out in public debates. He stated that there is no place for obscene language and “hybrid targeting” in the social, political, and public arena, and that debates must be conducted in a civilized and respectful manner.

“I suggest that we reach a public consensus that, starting from a given date, we will all stop using profanities and engaging in hybrid targeting in the social-political-public arena, and shift to exclusively civilized and respectful debates, guided by a reliance on verified facts,” Pashinyan said on social media.

He proposed July 1 as the starting point for this consensus. He added that he would refrain from using inappropriate language and would monitor the public’s response to his proposal until next weekend.
