Firearms, evidence of violent coup plot found at suspects’ homes, 14 arrested – authorities say

14 people have been arrested during the investigation into the coup plot allegedly led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan.

Galstanyan himself was arrested earlier on Wednesday.

Firearms and ammunition and other evidence of the plot were found during a search conducted by law enforcement agencies in the homes of members of the group, the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

Authorities said they searched over 90 addresses as part of the investigation and found evidence of the plot, including firearms and ammunition, lists of recruited individuals, plan of operations, military uniforms, radio communication devices, smoke grenades, incendiary devices, drones, as well as a list of would-be government appointees following the seizure of power.

Documents showing a detailed planning of the violent coup were also found.

16 persons have been indicted, 14 of whom have been placed under arrest.
