Azerbaijan has no reason to attack, says Armenian lawmaker

Azerbaijan doesn’t have any reason to launch aggression against Armenia, a senior lawmaker has said.

MP Sargis Khandanyan from the ruling Civil Contract party, the Chair of the foreign relations committee of the Armenian parliament, was asked by reporters whether the Israeli-Iranian conflict could pose a threat to Armenia.

“Naturally, any tension in the region, especially in a country bordering Armenia, causes concerns, which could overall escalate the security situation in the region. In terms of a possible Azerbaijani attack on Armenia, I have to continue to insist that Azerbaijan doesn’t have any reason or legitimacy to launch such an action,” the MP said.

He reiterated that Armenia is ready to sign the peace treaty with Azerbaijan as soon as possible. He said negotiations and discussions continue over this.
