President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to Armenia, Patrik Svensson, ahead of Sweden’s National Day.
President Khachaturyan congratulated the Ambassador and the friendly people of Sweden on the occasion of the national holiday, wishing them peace, progress, and prosperity, the Presidential office has said in a readout.
“I would also like to express my gratitude for the close cooperation and sincere trust toward the Republic of Armenia, reflected in the implementation of various joint programs that support democracy in our country.
I believe many countries are observing Sweden’s approach to the reforms taking place in Armenia on various issues. In many cases, this serves as an incentive for others to join initiatives aimed at supporting Armenia through economic, political, and overall reforms, all of which pursue a single goal - the establishment of democratic institutions in Armenia.
Indeed, this contributes to the strengthening of Armenia’s sovereignty and the enhancement of our country’s security and defense capabilities,” the President noted.
Ambassador Svensson expressed his appreciation for the warm reception.
“It is an honor for me to be hosted here today on the occasion of Sweden’s National Day. Thank you also for the kind words and good wishes toward my country,” he said.
During the meeting, the sides discussed a range of bilateral agenda issues related to the development of Armenia–Sweden relations, emphasizing the importance of deepening political dialogue and expanding cooperation across various fields.
President Khachaturyan highly valued Sweden’s long-standing support for reforms aimed at strengthening democracy, highlighting the importance of applying Swedish experience in the areas of governance transparency, rule of law, civil society engagement, and human rights protection.
Opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, and high-tech sectors were also discussed. It was noted that there is significant untapped potential for enhancing economic ties between the two countries, particularly through investment programs, the exchange of innovative technologies, and joint initiatives in the digital sector.
In this context, the importance of fostering cooperation with Ericsson, one of Sweden’s leading high-tech companies, was highlighted. Both sides underlined the significance of joint programs in communication technologies and telecommunications, which would contribute to advancing Armenia’s technological potential.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on the development of parliamentary diplomacy and the continuation of cooperation. The role of inter-parliamentary dialogue as a driving force for strengthening bilateral ties and mutual understanding was emphasized.
