The text of the new constitution is currently under development and the work is coordinated by the justice ministry, the Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan has said.
“I’ve always said that the text will be ready within ten months,” she said at a press conference. “As soon as it is ready, it will be presented to the public with separate conceptual provisions. Sufficient timeframes will be ensured for the people to be able to form an opinion. After all, the people will vote either for or against the new constitution,” she said.
The process proceeds on the basis of a single concept but comprehensive discussions are held regarding various norms.
Galyan said representatives of the civil society are involved in the process, in addition to the members of the council.
Asked by reporters whether the option of removing the reference to the Declaration of Independence in the constitution is considered, Galyan said, “We are considering various options, but the text is still under development. When the text is developed, we will share it with you for sure.”
She called on opposition forces to participate in the discussions and encouraged civil society participation.
The minister highlighted transparency.
Galyan said she can’t provide specific timeframes for the referendum, but stressed that authorities don’t intend to hide anything from the public regarding the text.
