The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has closed its presence in Azerbaijan.

“In May 2025, UNFPA concluded its Country Office operations in Azerbaijan,” UNFPA said in a statement. “Over its 30-year presence in the country, UNFPA played a key role in assisting the Government and other national and local partners to improve maternal health, combat gender-based violence, and promote evidence-based population policies grounded in evidence. UNFPA's engagement with Azerbaijan will continue through its Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, as well as its headquarters,” it added.

Earlier in March, Azeri media reported that Baku seeks to shut down the operations of 4 UN offices: the UNDP, the UNFPA, UNHCR and UNICEF.
