A parliamentary committee on Monday approved the economy ministry’s bill on introducing new regulations aimed at stronger consumer rights protection.
The regulations impose a ban on any misleading action against consumers, such as presenting fake view counts or fake ratings in online trading platforms.
Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan told lawmakers that the entire legislation of consumer rights protection is being aligned with the EU legislation.
Any aggressive marketing moves are also banned, such as visiting the consumer’s home without the latter’s approval, continuous unwanted advertisements over the phone or by other means, and addressing minors in the advertisements.
The Commission for the Protection of Competition will be reorganized as the Commission for the Protection of Competition and Consumer Interests.
Multiple other regulations are also envisaged to increase consumer rights protection.
