The XVII Joint ( Armenian - Georgian) Byurakan-Abastumani Colloquium will be organized on 5-9 May 2025 at Byurakan.

The colloquium is organized within the framework of long-term cooperation between the Byurakan Observatory (BA) and the Abastumani Observatory (AbAO),

The colloquium is “aimed at strengthening scientific ties between the two institutions and discussing a number of modern astrophysical topics,” the Byurakan Observatory said in a statement.

English and Russian are working languages of the colloquium.

The scientific collaboration and friendship between the Armenian and Georgian astronomers were established since 1930s due to Viktor Hambardzumyan’s (1908-1996) and Evgeni Kharadze’s (1907-2001) efforts.

Joint colloquiums, initiated in 1974, have since been held alternately in Byurakan and Abastumani.

These colloquiums continue to serve as a platform for the exchange of experience and the strengthening of ties between Armenian and Georgian astronomers.
