110th anniversary of Armenian Genocide commemorated in Buenos Aires

Representatives of the Armenian community of Argentina organized a procession in Buenos Aires on April 24 to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The members of the Armenian community marched towards the local residence of the Turkish envoy to Argentina. The procession and demonstration were organized by the youth organization of the Armenian community (MICA), Diario Armenia newspaper reported.

A message by former ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo was read during the event.

“Today, we are all here to remember the massacre committed in 1915 against the Armenian people living in the Ottoman Empire. We also remember the massacre of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, expelled from their ancestral homeland by Azerbaijan in 2023."

"History repeats itself. As in 1915, Armenian leaders were imprisoned in 2023. Today they are hostages. The international community refused to acknowledge that there was a new genocide against Armenians. And that is why today Azerbaijan threatens the very existence of Armenia itself. We need to show determination to prevent a new genocide against Armenia and Armenians. Let us work together, Armenians and non-Armenians, to make the promise of NEVER AGAIN a reality,” he said in his statement.

The event was attended by legislators Matías Lammens, Federico Grillo, Claudia Neira, Federico Esswein, and Gustavo Mola.

The event began with a message from Archbishop Aren Shaheenian, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church Diocese of Argentina and Chile. "The Armenian Genocide cannot be questioned, it cannot be the object of denial. If the Turkish government, the Azerbaijanis, and other movements currently question it, it is because they are adopting an attitude contrary to human rights. Those who doubt, those who deny, endanger and risk the flourishing of other forms of genocide, such as the one we suffered with the forced exile to which our 120,000 compatriots in Artsakh were subjected."

The demonstrators carried flags demanding the release of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages illegally imprisoned in Baku.
