Memory must make us more decisive and prudent – Speaker Simonyan’s statement on Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day

Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan has released a statement on the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Below is the statement released by his office.

“Dear compatriots,

April 24 is one of the difficult and sad days of our national memory. On this day, we commemorate one and a half million innocent Armenians, who became victims of genocide solely for being Armenian.

The Armenian Genocide is a deep wound of history, which today is still heard in the voice of justice. Our commitment is to build united, strong and peaceful Armenia based on past lessons and aimed at a stable future. We do not forget what happened, but we also do not want the memory to become a source of pain and mourning alone. It must make us more decisive and prudent in our further steps.

We bow to the memory of all the martyrs and have a new obligation to protect our statehood, appreciate peace and ensure a worthy future for our generations.

Eternal glory to the memory of the innocent victims.”
