1 minute read

Catholicos Karekin II of the Armenian Apostolic Church has extended condolences over the passing of Pope Francis.

In a letter published by the Mother See of Holy Etchmiatsin, Karekin II described Pope Francis as a “humble, brave and kind shepherd” who was devotedly following the path of Jesus Christ.

During his papacy, Francis always protected justice and peace, Karekin II said, highlighting his efforts to develop interchurch relations and caring for those in need.

The Catholicos lauded Pope Francis for constantly praying for the world full of wars and injustice, particularly for the Armenian people who bear the heavy consequences of the Nagorno-Karabakh wars.

Karekin II said the Armenian people will gratefully remember the Holy Mass on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in St. Peter’s Basilica, the declaration of Saint Gregory of Narek as Doctor of the Church, as well as Pope Francis’ visit to Armenia.

Karekin II prayed for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis and consolation of the Catholic Church clergy and believers.
