Dozens killed in US airstrikes on Yemen port, Houthis say

US airstrikes on an oil port in western Yemen have killed at least 38 people, according to the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV.
In a statement, the US military said it delivered the strike on Ras Isa fuel port in Hodeidah province to cut off revenue to Houthis. The port was used as a source of illicit profits, it added.
“The objective of these strikes was to degrade the economic source of power of the Houthis, who continue to exploit and bring great pain upon their fellow countrymen,” the US Central Command said in a statement. “This strike was not intended to harm the people of Yemen.”
According to Al-Masirah the fatalities were workers at the port. Citing the Houthi-run health ministry, it said that the strikes also injured 102 people.
The US has been striking Houthi targets since mid-March. Targets include oil refineries, airports and missile sites. US President Donald Trump has said he would use ‘overwhelming force’ to stop the Houthis from targeting shipping in the Red Sea, something the Houthis have been doing in what they say is in solidarity with Palestinians against Israel’s war in Gaza since the October 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas.
