Diplomat denies Azeri media report attributing "Zangezur corridor” statement to Chinese official

China supports Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Charge d' Affairs of China in Armenia Chen Ming has said.

Speaking to reporters, Ming denied an article by the Russian Sputnik news agency’s Azeri service which claimed that a Chinese official has used the “Zangezur corridor” narrative during a conference in Baku.

The Charge d' Affairs said that the Chinese officials didn’t even touch upon that subject at the conference and such media reports attributed to the Chinese officials can be fake or inaccurate.

He explained that the conference was dedicated to the Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese delegation discussed at the event how they can contribute to expanding the initiative in South Caucasus.

“Naturally China supports Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Armenia and Azerbaijan are friendly countries for China and we are in favor of the parties resolving their disagreements through political dialogue and diplomatic channels. The Belt and Road Initiative, which we have been advancing also in South Caucasus, is highly important for the region’s peace and development,” Chen Ming said.
