Nations League play-off: Georgian coach hopes for victory against Armenia

Willy Sagnol, the head coach of the Georgian national football team, stated that there are no favorites in the Nations League play-offs against Armenia.

"This match is a derby for both teams, and such matches have no favorites. We know we are facing a tough challenge, and it will be difficult for the Armenian team as well. The match is here, in Armenia, and I can't even imagine the massive support the Armenian team will have. They have changed their coach, and based on that, I think it will not be easy. The Georgian players are ready and prepared to play good football," Sagnol said during a pre-match press conference with reporters.

Regarding the new head coach of the Armenian national football team, John van't Schip, Sagnol remarked, "I have known him since his time coaching the Greek national team. He was also the head coach of Ajax, which shows that he is a good specialist. I believe his presence is a great opportunity for Armenian football to return to a higher level. Armenia has been playing football with great passion in recent years. Also, you have a footballer like Henrikh Mkhitaryan. It is difficult for two countries to compete with each other because of their shared history. However, in tomorrow's game, only one of us will be happy, and I hope that will be the Georgians."

As part of the UEFA Nations League play-off round, the Armenian national team will host the Georgian national team in Yerevan on March 20 (kick-off: 9:00 PM), with the return match taking place on March 23 (kick-off: 6:00 PM). The winner will secure the right to play in Nations League Group B.
