Azerbaijan Airlines crash: Oxygen tank exploded after bird strike

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 25, ARMENPRESS. An oxygen tank exploded on board the Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer E190AR after a bird strike before the deadly crash, according to Kazakh authorities.

The Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer E190AR was en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny in Russia's Chechnya when the incident occurred.

In a video posted online, the plane is seen nosediving before hitting the ground and bursting into flames near Aktau, Kazakhstan. Azertac news agency reported that the plane attempted to conduct an emergency landing after the bird strike.

Citing the Kazakh health authorities, RT reported that the oxygen cylinder exploded on board after the bird strike, causing passengers to lose consciousness. The explosion reportedly occurred after the aircraft's engine malfunctioned.

The plane was carrying 67 people, including 62 passengers and five crew members.

According to updated information, 28 passengers survived the crash.
