Armenpress wins annual award for anti-trafficking coverage

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 11 , ARMENPRESS.  As part of the annual awards ceremony for coverage of the fight against human trafficking, the material of  the Armenpress News Agency was awarded second place. The author of the article is Gayane Gaboyan.

The competition was organized by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.

The goal of the awards ceremony is to encourage comprehensive, objective, and effective coverage of the fight against human trafficking and exploitation in Armenia, helping raise public awareness about the prevention of such crimes.

Zara Aslanyan, Head of the Youth Affairs Department at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, welcomed the attendees and congratulated the winners. She emphasized that the competition aims to encourage coverage of human trafficking and exploitation, recognizing journalists who highlight the issue, inform the public about its negative impacts, and promote awareness of efforts to combat trafficking.

David Tumasyan, an international expert in combating human trafficking, noted that after years of serving on the committee, he has observed positive trends in both the number of applications and the quality of the materials submitted. 
“We now have highly competent and well-formulated materials, as I believe people are beginning to understand the seriousness of this field and the competition,” he said.

The submitted works were assessed by a professional jury consisting of experts on trafficking issues and representatives from journalistic organizations.
