Armenian President presents Crossroads of Peace project to WTO Director-General

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, during his visit to Switzerland, met with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Armenia’s participation in international trade processes and expansion of cooperation with the WTO were discussed at the meeting, according to a readout issued by President Khachaturyan’s office.

President Khachaturyan highly appreciated Armenia’s close cooperation with the WTO over the course of more than twenty years and stressed the WTO’s important role in ensuring global economic stability.

He said that the WTO’s activity is important not only for trade liberalization, but also in terms of improving the global economy.

The President presented to the WTO chief the Armenian government’s Crossroads of Peace project that is aimed at achieving regional stability and economic cooperation.

The sides also exchanged views on the possibilities and importance of development of Armenia’s IT and high-tech sector, noting that promoting the digital economy can contribute to increasing the country’s economic competitiveness, thus creating new opportunities and attracting investments.
